Margaret M. Mayes, 83, of Granite City, IL passed away peacefully on June 28th, 2018 in Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, AR. Born June 9th, 1935 in Fitzhugh, AR, she was the daughter of the late William Curdean Whitt & Ella Mae Whitt (Voss). She is survived by 2 sons, Joe Mayes (Judy 1) of Paducah, KY, & Larry Mayes (Judy 2) of Lawrence, KS; 1 Daughter, Cherilyn Morrissey of Garfield, AR; A Daughter-in law Sue Ellen Mayes of Granite City, IL; 2 Brothers, James C Whitt (Dee) of Crystal River, FL, & Billy Whitt (Bonnie) of Hope, AR; 4 Sisters, Norma Eaker of Sullivan, MO, Patricia McGowan of Sullivan, MO, Donnia Roberts (Bob) of Odessa, TX & Linda Kay Luttrell (Ron) of Mansfield, OH, 9 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren along with numerous Nieces & Nephews. Margaret is preceded in death by Her Father & Mother; Her 2 Sons, Dennis Mayes & Travis Mayes; A Son in-Law, Jim Morrissey; 1 Great Grandson, Michael Sumner & 1 Great Granddaughter, Ashley Wilder; 4 Brothers, Richard, Bobby, Tommy & Ronnie Whitt; 3 Sisters, Gracie Lee, Ruby Marie Elston & Joanne Whitt; along with other extended family and friends. Margaret’s first love was always the lord, followed very closely by her never-ending love of her very large family & the friends that she considered to be family as well. She was always singing or yodeling, praising the lord and smiling. She taught all who were around her, for any length of time, what love really was. She never met a stranger, only “friends we hadn’t met”. She gave away everything she had, & was one of the happiest people you could meet. As a Home Health Care CNA for many years, her great lifelong passion was always caring for others, especially children & the elderly. There is no question that Heaven has gained a true angel. Her absence has left a void in all who knew her. There will be a memorial in celebration of her life, Sunday, July 8th, 2018 at Bethesda Baptist Church-3035 Nameoki Drive <https://maps.google.com/?q=3035 Nameoki Drive&entry=gmail&source=g> -West Granite City, IL 62040- from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm with Lunch at 1:00 pm followed by a small memorial service at 2:30 pm -3:00 pm officiated by Pastor David Denton.
