Ernest D. Yonkers died on February 6, 2021 at home after an illness.
He was born on November 10, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were Ernest J. and Jule S. (Marquardt) Yonkers. Both preceded him in death, as well as, his brother, Donald Yonkers.
He graduated from Valparaiso University in 1972 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked as a Fire Protection Engineer for most of his professional life. He worked many years in Detroit and the last eleven years at Harrison French & Associates in Rogers, Arkansas, as the chief fire protection engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, whom he married in 1972. He is also survived by his daughters: Emilie, and Elissa (Josh O’Leary) in Wheaton, IL; his sons: James (Katie) in Des Moines, IA; and John in Rogers, AR He also has two grandsons Jimmy and Jamie. He also is survived by 3 sisters-in-laws: Nancy, Becky and Amy (Dave) and a brother-in-law Phil (Cindy) and several nieces and nephews.
Ernest was active in his church. He served as an elder for several years and as a Sunday School teacher. In Detroit he was active in the ministry to the homeless by working in and running homeless shelters in the churches he served. At the time of his death he was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Pea Ridge, AR.
